Hello, and welcome to Muralworx.biz. My name is Charles Dickey, and I'll be your host. I am a 50-something, production-oriented graphic artist with over 25 years experience in commercial art. I'm a 2nd generation, native Hoosier artist, following the footsteps of my father, Charles A. Dickey, a relatively well-known fine artist. I've worked in several large sign production companies, and operated several art-based companies of my own.

I spent 6 years learning the sign business in San Diego, California, working with several sign companies, including a short stint with "Marv" Gunderson, the well-known giant billboard pictorial artist, famously nicknamed "The Marlboro Man" for his 40'x60' giant pictorial paintings of cowboys, horses, and cigarette bulletins. I painted signs, banners, temporary window promotions, and billboards all over the County of San Diego.

Since returning to my home state, I have worked for several sign companies in Indianapolis and free-lanced as a graphic artist for many businesses in the Indianapolis area. It was here that I first developed the idea for what I call "Total Image Presentation". Total Image Presentation means developing logos, signage, interior and exterior graphics, and marketing materials that all have a common "feel",  so that a client's image is well thought out and executed in a consistent manner. This process gives superior representation to the marketplace, as opposed to a series of add-on, disjointed individual approaches to various marketing efforts. I firmly believe that when your business cards, phone and other printed advertisements, and interior and exterior location identification are all in harmony, a strong, indelible impression is made upon the buying public.

For example, when a client contracted me about an under 21 club they were opening in the basement of Union Station called "The Club Down Under", we used murals, signage, awning treatments, and promotional materials with an Australian theme. The awning over the outside entrance was zebra striped, the entry was lined with murals of Australian landscape, there were painted cut-outs of Australian wildlife mounted on the walls, and the signs were all rustic, Australian continent-shaped panels. This gave the club the atmosphere they needed to create the illusion of being in Australia for it's customers. The name obviously lent itself well to the theme, as well as it's underground location.

This is the ultimate service I want to offer here. Of course, each of these elements are available individually, but it is so much more effective when all the elements work together in harmony.

Art is not life, but an imitator of life. An impression of life, if you will. Over the years, I have included many painted pictorials in oil-based enamels, in various styles, including photo realism, to enhance sign projects. I have reproduced renderings from architects that were originally watercolors, pastel drawings, cartoons, etc. and have executed them in oil-based enamels to look like the original media. I have come to believe that impressionism/realism is more powerful than photo realism. It is a freer expression, with an eloquence of stroke, color, and composition. Since art is an impression of life, I believe it is also a more pure form of art.

In 2001, I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. I'd like to think this is reflected in the way I do business, and some of the items offered here will be faith-based. I have a passion for faith-based art, and enjoy working for churches to theme youth facilities, or present corporate images, or simply grace the walls of structures.

O.K., enough about me. If you'll take the time to view my portfolio pages and the video presentation, we'll just let my "worx" speak for itself. Thank you so much for considering Muralworx.biz for your creative enterprises, and may the Lord bless you.
